Software Filters
Software filters can:
- Establish Access Controls, allowing only authorized persons to visit a particular site.
- Implement Server Settings to create firewalls, exlcuding attacks or unwelcome messages from third parties.
- Delete or separate out unwelcome messages (e.g., spam, inappropriate newsgroups)
- Prevent access to unwanted sites (e.g., pornography)
- Implement End User Browser Settings to control exchanges of private information and allow access only to recommended sites
- Prevent unauthorized access
Some filters can operate interactively, sending a reply to the originator of a message to ask, on a one time basis, for authentication.
Software Filters help substantially to mitigate or reduce the following problems:
- Imposition of or access to unwanted material
- Spam
